When Dwaina and I got married we had no idea that God would call us into vocational ministry. After graduating from college I took my first job as a coach and teacher. Three years into our marriage I began serving our church as their Interim Youth Minister while still coaching and teaching. God started a gentle process of calling me into ministry at that time which led to a six-year tenure in youth ministry. I took my first pastorate in 1991, and graduated from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in 1998. I LOVE teaching and preaching God's Word! Additionally, Dwaina and I have been speaking together to strengthen marriages since 1993. We love working together in this ministry, but we both love ministering to everyone in a local body of Christ as well. God has blessed Dwaina and me with two children who are now young adults. Our son, Tanner, is the oldest, and Hailey is our daughter. On a personal level, in my free time I enjoy playing golf, riding motorcycles, snow skiing, reading, taking day trips, and traveling with Dwaina. I also like to build stuff, but I have to admit that I would rather do this with someone who really knows what they're doing because I don't! We are so excited to be a part of Scotsdale Baptist Church, and the ministry that God has for this church in El Paso and beyond.

Dennis McFarling, a great musician who grew up in the great southwest is a recent transplant to Texas. He has a heart to find God working and continue to work with him there. With a good sense of humor and a passion to see men and women hear about God; Dennis strives to look for new ways to reach out to our community. Although his first calling is through music, he has ministered in his teaching of Sunday School. The time he spends with the various musical groups; from the Handbell Ringers to the Praise Team and the Celebration Choir always allows time to smile and praise God. Dennis takes time to learn new technology and find applications to plug them into worship, He would like to personally invite you to join us in worship this Sunday.

Larry Barnes

Youth and College Minister

I was born in Las Cruces, NM, but lived in Carlsbad, NM most of my life. I was saved through the youth group when I was a teenager and felt a call to serve God through the same way that I was ministered to. I went to college at Eastern New Mexico University in Portales, NM where I got a degree in Religion and Sociology. During college I workedas a youth minister in a small church, and I was also heavily involved in the Baptist Student Union where I led the praise and worship team and went on two overseas mission trips. I also met my wife Valerie through the BSU through mutual friends. After college I attended Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary in Mill Valley, CA and got a Masters of Divinity with a certificate in Youth Ministry. During Seminary I worked with a church as a Media and Tech director, and more importantly also married my wife Valerie in January of 2006. In my free time I enjoy listening and playing music. I play the bass guitar and acoustic guitar, and enjoy learning other instruments as well. I also like playing video games, going to movies, and traveling; and have visited over 10 countries (so far). In 2011 my wife and I welcomed my son Parker into the world. I joined the work of Scotsdale in 2007 and am excited to see what God is doing in and through the youth of the church.
